Position Title: Summer Feeding Driver
Department: Transportation
FLSA Status: Seasonal Hourly/Non-Exempt
Schedule: 8 weeks at 40 Hours per Week/Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm (Includes 30-minute unpaid meal break). Start date will be July 1, 2025.

WHO WE ARE:
Food Bank of Central New York is a not-for-profit organization leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our region, by partnership with others in our community, through education, advocacy, and distribution of nutritious food. We partner with 360 community partners in the counties of Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and St. Lawrence.
The core of our work is achieved by partnering with local agencies that distribute food to individuals and families in need. The key partners that make up our emergency food network are food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters. Other not-for-profit agencies such as day care centers, rehabilitation centers, senior centers, and group homes are able to utilize membership as a way to supplement their agency food needs.

Hunger is a very serious problem in the United States today. Despite its great wealth, an estimated one in eight Americans rely on emergency food assistance. Among the thousands of people who depend on charitable food programs in central and northern New York, and the Mohawk Valley:
· 29% are children 18 or younger
· 10% are without health insurance
· 68% have been unemployed for more than two years
· 32% have a working family member
· 91% are below the federal poverty line
41% earn less than $12,000 annually
POSITION SUMMARY
The Summer Feeding Driver plays a pivotal role in our mission to combat hunger during the summer months by ensuring the timely and safe delivery of meals to designated summer food sites. Operating a mid-sized truck, the driver navigates through various routes to distribute nutritious meals to children and families in need. As a vital link between our food bank and the community, the driver upholds the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and courteous service, embodying our commitment to dignity and respect for all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Safely operate a mid-sized truck (no special license required) to transport meals to assigned summer food sites.
- Adhere to predetermined routes throughout our Central New York service area and schedules to ensure timely delivery of meals.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure proper functioning and safety.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and vehicle maintenance.
- Collaborate with program staff to load and unload meals efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with site coordinators and staff to facilitate smooth service delivery.
- Comply with all traffic and safety regulations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sufficient mobility to load and unload cargo and to secure goods for transport.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and to maintain focus and alertness.
- Adaptability to work in various weather conditions.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check. Food Bank of Central New York complies with all applicable state and federal laws pertaining to drug testing and criminal background checks, including Article 23-A.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous driving experience, preferably in a delivery or transportation role.
- Experience working in community service or food service programs is a plus.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong organizational and time management skills to adhere to delivery schedules.
- Excellent navigational skills and familiarity with local routes.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with site coordinators and the public.
- Commitment to safety and efficiency in all operations.
