Position Title: Warehouse Associate
Department: Food Distribution
FLSA Status: Full Time Hourly/Non-Exempt
Schedule: 40 Hours per Week/Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm (Includes 30-minute unpaid meal break).

Food Bank of Central New York is a not-for-profit organization leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our region, by partnership with others in our community, through education, advocacy, and distribution of nutritious food. We partner with 360 community partners in the counties of Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and St. Lawrence.
The core of our work is achieved by partnering with local agencies that distribute food to individuals and families in need. The key partners that make up our emergency food network are food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters. Other not-for-profit agencies such as day care centers, rehabilitation centers, senior centers, and group homes are able to utilize membership as a way to supplement their agency food needs.

Hunger is a very serious problem in the United States today. Despite its great wealth, an estimated one in eight Americans rely on emergency food assistance. Among the thousands of people who depend on charitable food programs in central and northern New York, and the Mohawk Valley:
- 29% are children 18 or younger
- 10% are without health insurance
- 68% have been unemployed for more than two years
- 32% have a working family member
- 91% are below the federal poverty line
- 41% earn less than $12,000 annually
POSITION SUMMARY
The Warehouse Associate plays a crucial role in the operational success of the Food Bank of Central New York. As part of the warehouse team, this individual is responsible for assisting in all facets of warehouse operations. This includes the handling of products from delivery to distribution, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the warehouse, and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of all warehouse machinery. The Warehouse Associate's contributions are vital in ensuring that food products are managed efficiently, safely, and in a manner that upholds the dignity and respect of all individuals we serve.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with the loading and unloading of product from delivery trucks, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Maintain accurate records of product received and shipped, ensuring the quality and integrity of the food distributed.
- Complete cleaning logs after checking and cleaning warehouse, docks, and grounds as directed.
- Utilize agency pick sheets to accurately pull and stage products to fill orders, maintaining sanitation lines cleanliness.
- Rotate stock using the FIFO (First In, First Out) system and properly tag pallets for storage.
- Participate in cycle counts and regularly scheduled inventory counts to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Print delivery orders and assist with the loading of pick-up orders as needed.
- Report inventory discrepancies and product damages to the Inventory Coordinator.
- Operate warehouse machinery, including forklifts and pallet jacks, safely and report any equipment issues to the Warehouse Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to continuously lift and maneuver heavy items weighing 60 pounds.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a warehouse environment that may be subject to varying temperatures and conditions, including a sub-zero freezer space.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in a warehouse or related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience operating warehouse machinery such as forklifts and pallet jacks are preferred.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent mathematical skills to manage inventory counts and product orders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact comfortably with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and adhere to set procedures.
- Commitment to safety protocols and procedures in operating equipment and handling products.
