Summary
The Strategic Gifts Advisor is a strategist and fundraiser with a passion for building mutually beneficial and impactful relationships. The Strategic Gifts Advisor is responsible for securing impactful and transformational funding for the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana’s mission and programs and is considered a major gifts officer role. As an integral part of the development team, the Strategic Gifts Advisor collaborates with other team members to identify and implement successful donor strategies.
Responsibilities
- Identify, proactively cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 65-75 major donors, with the potential capacity to invest $5,000 or more per year but with a focus on five-figure and six-figure gifts. Uncover alignment between donor interests and FBNELA’s vision and secure investment in organizational priorities.
- Achieve activity metrics that serve as a roadmap to the overall revenue goal: meaningful touchpoints, solicitations, and gifts. Utilizing the moves management system, be able to track a minimum of 50 personal donor touchpoints per month (includes meaningful engagements and personal solicitations). Be able to report regularly on portfolio progress.
- Regularly analyze and report results against established goals and metrics; modify donor engagement strategies as necessary and appropriate to meet revenue goals.
- Use FBNELA’s CRM as a strategic tool for portfolio, pipeline, metrics, and moves management. Track all donor plans, interactions, and solicitations in the CRM within 48 hours, review records and reports to ensure accurate portfolio data.
- Work with other team members as appropriate, to design and implement recognition, stewardship activities and special events for donors and prospects affiliated with the food bank.
- Develop fundraising materials, such as briefing materials, request letters, proposals and personalized gift request materials for solicitation and stewardship meetings.
- Provide personal acknowledgment for major donor gifts and ensure timely and appropriate thank you letters, calls, and outreach.
- Demonstrate to each portfolio donor the impact of their philanthropy through stewardship meetings, activities, reports, and communications.
- Collaborate with leadership, volunteers, and colleagues to engage portfolio donors in personally meaningful ways, ensuring a seamless donor experience and maximizing every opportunity for engagement.
- Participate in regular strategy sessions and team meetings to share insights and contribute to the overall success of the fundraising program.
- Support and attend organization events and use the opportunity to proactively deepen relationships and secure follow-up meetings.
- Participate in external speaking engagements when appropriate to help build FBNELA’s brand within the community and build relationships within the community.
- Keep abreast of relevant fundraising and food bank industry trends and best practices.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all donor records, transactions, data, research, and communications, respecting the anonymity of each donor’s identity, as directed by the donor and department policy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3 or more years of fundraising experience with a track record of growing donor revenue year-over-year and securing five-figure gifts
- Proven ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to high-level stakeholders in a persuasive manner
- Experience with CRM systems, structured moves management process, and entering contact notes in donor records
Preferred Skills and Experience
- CFRE credential (Certified Fund Raising Executive)
- Knowledge of planned giving concepts and vehicles and comfortable weaving into conversations with donors
- Familiarity with the Northeast Louisiana philanthropic environment and existing and emerging philanthropists in the region
Travel
- Ability to travel within the Food Bank’s twelve parish service area in Northeast Louisiana to engage with donors and prospective donors
- Ability to travel occasionally for fundraising training and conferences, which might require overnight arrangements
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are typically done between the hours of 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday; however, this position requires occasional evening, weekend and on-call responsibilities. There will be occasional overnight travel to attend training and conferences.
