Job Description:

Title: Assistant Warehouse Manager

Classification: Full-time, Exempt, 40 hours/week

Reports to: Warehouse Manager

Salary Range: $42,900.00 – $48,750.00/annually

Mission:

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana works in partnership with the community to feed the hungry, increase awareness of the effects of hunger and lead programs designed to alleviate hunger. The Food Bank serves Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties and is a member of Feeding America, Feeding Indiana’s Hungry and United Way.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for supporting the Warehouse Manager in overseeing daily warehouse operations, including receiving inventory, managing stock levels, coordinating order fulfillment, supervising warehouse staff, and ensuring efficient product flow while maintaining accuracy and compliance with Food Bank of Northern Indiana’s standards; essentially acting as a key deputy to the Warehouse Manager in all aspects of warehouse management. This position will act in the Warehouse Manager capacity when the Warehouse Manager is unavailable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Commit to upholding policies, principles and best practices for food safety. Assist in verifying food safety standards are met for products and packaging materials through visual inspection, product handling and temperature monitoring when applicable.

2) Understand the personal responsibility to follow all safety policies and health rules, programs and procedures, to report all unsafe acts, environment or behaviors immediately and to always report safety issues, incidents or accidents immediately.

3) Responsible for ensuring warehouse areas are clean and sanitary, by overseeing cleaning activities according to schedule and ensuring cleaning records are accurate, complete and current.

4) Ensure all required documentation necessary for compliance to occupational safety, food safety standards and regulatory requirements is complete, accurate and current.

5) Work with Inventory Specialist to ensure accuracy in inventory control and management. Utilize inventory software which includes day-to-day order processing, timely cycle counts, correction of discrepancies and successful monthly inventory reviews.

6) Responsible for oversite of the mobile food distributions including scheduling, and coordination of all mobile pantry orders throughout the six-county service area.

7) Oversee the onsite pantry including supervision of pantry assistants and volunteers, coordination of pantry goods, parking lot traffic management, data collection of recipients, and customer service.

8) Responsible for the logistics involved with scheduling trucks for the warehouse including USDA deliveries. Works closely with the local vendor managers for local donations, food drives or other necessary truck logistics and coordination.

9) Work closely with the Agency Relations Director in settling any USDA delivery discrepancies or disputes.

10) Complete and perform accurate follow-through on documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading, and warehousing of product, as defined by AIB and OSHA policies and procedures.

11) Maintain a rapport with donors and volunteers to foster continued support and a professional working relationship.

12) Inspect product donations to ensure that safety and sanitation standards are met.

13) Work with other team members in a cooperative and supportive way, by aiding with fill-in coverage for other positions.

14) Assist in other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Education, Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required, higher level education preferred.
  • Two to four years of warehouse related experience.
  • Two to four years of truck scheduling experience preferred.
  • One year forklift experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer functions, Microsoft Suite and able to accurately enter data.
  • Become ServSafe certified; commit to adhering to safe food handling and storage guidelines and practices.

· Valid driver’s license for operating company vehicles required.

· An ability to drive a 26 foot box truck and operate a variety of warehouse equipment - such as forklifts, pallet jacks and power tools - and the ability to learn other equipment as needed.

· Must be able to work in hot and cold climates – such as with freezer and refrigeration units.

· Ability to manage time effectively and to multitask.

· Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with a variety of personalities both internally and externally, such as staff, donors and agency representatives.

  • Ability to perform basic math, maintain records and write legibly.

· Strong commitment to quality record keeping, customer service, and operational efficiency.

· Ability to be a strong team player, work independently and collaborate with others appropriately.

· Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to maintain records, input data, and create reports.

· Ability to work diverse schedules that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing and crouching. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance or use of equipment. This position works in extreme temperature changes involving freezer and refrigeration units.

Employment requires a negative drug screening, and successful background check.
