What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kids Cooking Instructor position at Food Explorers?
Food Explorers is looking for an after-school instructor to teach kids cooking classes. The ideal candidate is in the nutrition, health or education field. Food Explorers teaches children about food and cooking, and how to become confident chefs. This position requires traveling to class sites throughout the state. Applicants must be available between 3-6pm starting immediately.
The instructor will cook with kids at after-school organizations, schools and libraries. The instructor must be confident in the kitchen and able to guide children through a recipe and nutrition focused educational activity. Time management and organization are key requirements for this position.
The ideal candidate will reside in CT due to programming being on site and in-person.
Responsibilities within guidelines defined by Food Explorers – including menus, recipes, ingredients and activities/ worksheets
- Responsible for a group of up to 12 school aged children.
- Arrive to program sites on-time with all required equipment and ingredients.
- Guide children step by step through the recipe.
- Comply with food safety rules.
- Educate children about set nutrition topics in each class.
- Complete any educational worksheets or activities with the children.
Educational Requirements
- Registered Dietitian or enrolled in a Nutrition/Dietetics program at an accredited college or university.
- OR currently enrolled in a health or education related plan of study
Skills
- Experience working with children.
- Familiar with basic nutrition concepts
- A confident cook (no formal culinary education required).
- Excellent communicator - with friendly approachable manner.
- Adaptable and able to multi-task in the kitchen.
- Knowledge of various cooking methods and techniques.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Proficient in time management and organization.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
