POSITION TITLE: Summer Food Program Kitchen Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Summer Food Program Kitchen Coordinator
HOURS: 30-40 hours a week
DATES OF POSITION: June 16, 2025- August 28, 2025
HOURLY WAGE: $18.50/hour
SUMMARY OF POSITION: This is a temporary position. The FOOD for Lane County (FFLC) Summer Food Program aims to provide children with nutritious meals where school meals are not available in the summer. Kitchen Assistants prepare meals for the Summer Food Program for distribution to sites across Lane County. In cooperation with the kitchen team, this position understands and adheres to the program menu and associated USDA meal pattern requirements. This position will also assist with the flow of meal distribution by staging meal coolers to get picked up by Site Supervisors and assist with the return of food items at the end of each day. Kitchen Assistants may also serve as Site Supervisors if a backup is needed. Must be 18 years of age or older.
PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares food in quantities according to number of children estimated to be served, based on site meal-count forms
- Assists in the daily preparation of equipment, supplies, and utensils needed for the program
- Follows Summer Food Service Program menu & associated USDA meal pattern requirements
- Sets up and breaks down the kitchen staging area, including moving equipment and coolers.
- Assists with loading and unloading vehicles
- May help coordinate volunteer tasks, as needed
- Cleans workspaces, equipment, and meal coolers daily
- Maintains a professional appearance, manner, and approach while on duty
- Works in a manner that promotes a safe and sanitary environment; makes efforts to reduce safety hazards, accidents, and injuries
- Assist with the flow of meal distribution by staging meal coolers to get picked up and assist with the return of food items at the end of each day
- Assist with the flow of meal distribution by delivering last minute items to Site Supervisors as needed
- Serves as a Site Supervisor as needed
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: We value all forms of experience including, unpaid work, lived experience, education, and training.
- Some food service experience helpful
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- The ability to obtain a current Food Handler’s Card
- Current Oregon driver’s license with good driving record, current auto insurance, and ability to use personal vehicle for business
- Ability to safely lift 40 pounds
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to all volunteers
WORK LOCATION: Rented kitchen facility
