Position: Second Grade Teacher
Reports to: Lower School Director
Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Start Date: August 1, 2025
The 2nd Grade teacher is energetic, creative, resourceful, and has a primary responsibility of establishing and maintaining a teaching and learning environment that reflects Foothills Mission and Core Values. The teacher has primary responsibility for the planning and instruction of the core subject areas of language arts, math, and social studies. Successful candidates will have teaching experience in the primary or elementary grades, experience teaching Readers and Writers Workshop, mathematics that reflects the Singapore philosophy, and the demonstrated abilitythrough observation and referencesto teach to the highest level of all students in a school that values teaching to the whole child.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish high academic and behavior expectations and a supportive, predictable learning climate that provides opportunities for students to learn to be accountable
Form trusting and supportive relationships with students and partnerships with parents
Gauge the instructional curriculum so that it is developmentally appropriate and meets the needs of each learner
Work collaboratively with partner 2nd Grade lead teacher to develop an experience that accounts for individual teacher strengths and differences
Use whole class, small group and individual instructional techniques
Observe, evaluate, encourage, and monitor students academic and social development and progress
Create a Responsive Classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the academic, social, and emotional development of students
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the schools curriculum of Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, and Phonics Workshop
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the schools mathematics curriculum that is based on the Singapore philosophy
Communicate regularly and proactively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding students progress
Be in classroom prior to arrival of students in the morning and remain in the afternoon until all students have been dismissed
Participate in duties outside of the classroom, as assigned, to support student safety on campus
Attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year
Conduct parent conferences.
The ideal candidate will have the following educational and work background:
Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
Postgraduate degree is preferred but not required
A minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience
Experience teaching Teachers College Reading, Writing, and Phonics Workshop
Experience teaching Singapore-style mathematics
Knowledge of Responsive Classroom and implementing Responsive Classroom practices
Demonstrated knowledge of educational technology to support teaching and learning
