What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infant/Toddler Assistant Teacher position at For Kids Sake Early Learning Center?
We open at 6:15 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
An Assistant Teacher is the individual who oversees an individual child or group in an early childhood setting. To represent For Kids’ Sake Early Learning Center personally, professionally, and in a manner by the mission and goals of For Kids' Sake Early Learning Center. In conjunction with a co-teacher, the main roles of the assistant teacher are to guide children, develop and implement an age appropriate and culturally diverse set of activities that supports the domains (sensory, cognitive, emotional, physical, and social) of child development, and maintain a healthy, exciting, and safe learning environment. An Assistant Teacher would also contribute to the maintenance of children’s records, communicate limited information to parents, and maintain a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive learning environment. Age-appropriate activities should provide for growth in skill, self-awareness, group relations, and character development. By conducting themselves in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner. The Assistant Teacher is a role model for children and adults.
Know How:
1. Must be First Aid & CPR and Bloodborne Pathogen certified or willing to be certified.
2. Must have the desire to work within an early childhood setting with infants and toddlers. Have the desire to stay at least a year. Must be willing to meet the educational requirements of the State of Michigan for Child Day Care Licensing.
3. Must be willing to follow the lead of another teacher in her understanding of the developmental stages of infants/toddlers.
4. Must be willing to follow the lead of another teacher in working with parents, conflict resolution, and public relations.
5. Must be willing to learn group process and work in harmony with other staff. Negative comments or thoughts are NOT to be shared with co-workers or in front of other co-workers! Any negative comments or concerns must be directed to an administrator.
6. Must be committed to the philosophy, goals, and mission of For Kids’ Sake Early Learning Centers.
7. Must possess leadership skills and calm crisis management skills.
8. Must possess and utilize organizational skills.
9. To communicate positively and effectively with kids, families, and co-workers.
10. Show patience, be soothing, and understand the process of elimination when figuring out the needs of a non-verbal small human; show no favoritism, especially when some temperaments or personalities have stages that need extra attention.
11. Be creative and a self-starter. Being ready for the next activity or meeting the next need is an important team trait.
