We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and organized Program and Volunteer Manager to
oversee our literacy initiatives and volunteer programs. This role is crucial in ensuring the
success and growth of our organization as we expand our reach to more schools in Knox County.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management:
• Work with educators and literacy specialists to enhance program effectiveness
• Evaluate and improve existing literacy programs
Volunteer Management:
• Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies and volunteer recognition
programs
• Create and conduct volunteer training programs
• Maintain volunteer database and track volunteer hours
• Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers
• Collaborate with the Book Distribution Manager to schedule and coordinate
volunteers for weekly read-aloud sessions and bi-annual book giveaway events
• Evaluate and improve volunteer program effectiveness to cultivate a positive and
engaging volunteer experience
Book Distribution:
• Coordinate with schools to schedule and plan book giveaway events
• Develop and maintain relationships with book suppliers and donors
• Manage logistics for book giveaway events, including setup, execution, and tear-
down; providing assistance during book giveaways
Community Relations:
• Assist in serving as a public face of the organization
• Represent For the Love of Reading at events and in media
Miscellaneous:
• Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement
fundraising strategies
• Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Education, or a related field;
• 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit program management or a similar role
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Experience in volunteer management
• Passion for literacy and working with children
• (Preferred, but not required) Demonstrated experience with (and appreciation for)
children’s books/literature
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
• Hybrid position including remote work as well as time spent in Knox Co Schools
• Ability to lift and move boxes of books weighing up to 20 pounds
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between office and event
locations
• Ability to stand, walk, and be active for extended periods during events
• Comfortable working in a standard hybrid office environment with prolonged
periods of sitting and computer use
• Visual acuity to read both printed materials and computer screens.
• Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment including computers,
printers, and copiers
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for events and volunteer
coordination
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
Compensation:
• This is a part-time (20-30 hours/week), hourly ($22/hour) position.
