About the Organization

For Us, By Us PGH is a grassroots nonprofit led by and for LGBTQ people. We’re building the kinds of spaces we’ve longed for — places of connection, healing, learning, and truth-telling. Through peer support, storytelling, LGBTQ education, and community-based mental health advocacy, we help LGBTQ people feel seen, held, and empowered — while working to transform the systems that care for us.

Our vision for queer healing is rooted in diagnosing and treating both external and internal barriers to wellness. While many organizations do vital external work — fighting legislation, supporting housing, organizing pride — we also center what happens inside: the internalized shame, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and grief we carry.

This is both external and internal work. Real liberation means healing inside and out. Internal healing external action = a strong, resilient (but also tender and thriving) LGBTQ community. Less suffering, more love. That’s the dream.

Purpose (Social Media Manager)

The Social Media Manager helps shape and maintain FUBU’s digital presence. This person will support the Outreach & Events Committee by creating and sharing content that reflects our mission, values, and ongoing programs.

You’ll help plan, create, and schedule social media content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn), and your work will highlight the joy, resistance, and heart of our community. All content will be reviewed and approved by the committee lead prior to posting.

This is a great opportunity for someone who loves activism, storytelling, and helping messages reach people who need them.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and schedule engaging, community-centered posts on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok
• Help create graphics (using Canva or another platform) and write captions that feel authentic and mission-aligned
• Attend and help document events for photos, video, or story content (if available)
• Help organize content calendars, share upcoming events, and uplift FUBU’s work online
• Work with the Outreach & Events Committee to align on tone, voice, and timing
• Attend biweekly committee meetings (2/month)

This is a volunteer position and does not receive financial compensation.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and/or LinkedIn
• Comfortable with tools like Canva, Google Docs, or scheduling platforms
• A good communicator with a strong sense of voice and visual storytelling
• Creative, values-driven, and consistent
• Aligned with FUBU’s mission of LGBTQ visibility, healing, and empowerment
• Able to commit to roughly 15 hours/month, including meetings and independent work
• Must have access to a computer and reliable internet
