Non-Exempt, Hourly

  • General Summary of the Position

Perform tasks involving physical labor of heavy agricultural projects, including preparation, assembly, and maintenance of feed and grain handling facilities. May operate a variety of hand and power tools, heavy equipment, various machinery, material handling equipment and computers. Directly supervise, coordinate and schedule daily work activities of construction crew.

  • Essential Functions
  • Material handling and storage; heavy lifting (50-90 lbs.), pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, walking, forward / above shoulder reaching and balancing for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

  • Travel 50% of the time.
  • Working at varying heights by frequently ascending / descending structures safely by utilizing proper fall protection.
  • See, understand and communicate signals / instructions from the ground or at heights.
  • Work safely in tight, restricted spaces, following proper confined space procedures.
  • Inspect work progress, equipment, tools or job sites to verify safety or to ensure that specifications are met; provide instruction to employees to prevent, detect and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedure and / or safety rules.
  • Coordinate daily work activities of construction crew with subcontractor activities.
  • Assign work to employees, based on material or worker requirements of specific jobs.
  • Estimate and requisition material or worker requirements to complete jobs.
  • Confer with managerial or technical personnel, other departments or subcontractors to resolve problems or coordinate activities.
  • Analyze worker or construction problems and recommend solutions. Prepare documentation and report accidents or injuries.
  • Read, understand and communicate blueprints and schematic drawings to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures.
  • Other essential functions include those listed on the construction crew / millwright job description.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Well-developed knowledge of agricultural / industrial machinery mechanics; remove, repair, inspect, test and replace parts.

  • Excellent fabrication and cutting skills, as well as welding galvanized, stainless and thin metals.
  • Must be able to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and reach; lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object. (Occasionally lift 90 lbs., frequently lift 50 lbs.)
  • Accurately calculate load / capacity, angles, leverage, measuring, etc.
  • Ensure all construction crew know and follow all company safety policies, procedures and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Basic computer and software knowledge, including iPad technology to complete and upload job tickets, trip sheets and other required paperwork.
  • Ability to manage and build good relationships with employees in order to motivate; foster open, honest and candid communication; and determine strengths and weaknesses.
  • Excellent communication skills reading / writing / verbal English for efficiency in cooperative work assignments, to follow and promote safe work practices, and prepare and transmit consistent, accurate reports and time keeping.
  • Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills to answer questions, address complaints and resolve problems with employees, subcontractors and customers.
  • Skilled in meeting quality standards for service and customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Education, Training and Experience
  • High school graduate or GED required, some training in vocational school or college helpful.

  • Three or more years of previous work-related training with experienced workers within the company or combination of experience and education.
  • Work Context
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.

  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Wear common protective or safety equipment as required by the job such as safety harness, hard hats, steel-toed shoes, glasses, gloves and hearing protection.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Excellent stamina is required.
  • Requires good stress tolerance, accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations.
  • Special Requirements
  • Valid drivers license.

  • Must pass PPPO, General Physical and Drug Screen.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
