Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemist to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
As a Senior Chemist, you’ll be instrumental in building out the early foundation of our lab. You’ll have full autonomy to operate and work on building out testing capabilities on our key analytical chemistry instruments, especially our LC/MS and GC/MS.
This role reports to our Lab Director and works closely with our team in-person daily. This is a rare opportunity to join a true startup lab as an early employee and earn a competitive salary, full-time benefits, and significant equity.
Responsibilities:
● Lead LC/MS and GC/MS operations, support ICP-MS, and wet chemistry testing
● Plan and execute intake, prep, testing, and reporting for hundreds of food samples daily
● Recruit and manage lab technicians, including training, mentorship, and evaluations
● Develop and implement laboratory systems that maximize throughput and automation
● Monitor and evaluate instrument performance, minimizing production retests
● Perform basic maintenance, calibration, and verification testing on lab equipment
● Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, especially ISO, but also FDA and USDA
● Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and communication
● Maintain a safe and efficient working environment
Qualifications:
● Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, etc)
● 3 years of laboratory experience, ideally in a high-throughput analytical setting
● Proficiency with LC/MS, GC/MS, and ICP-MS is essential
● Ability to set and maintain quality standards for ISO requirements and customer needs
● Experience with LIMS and QMS software and terminology, especially QBench
● Strong leadership and management skills
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
