Associate Vice President for Strategy and Operations
Role Overview
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Strategy and Operations plays a critical leadership role within the division of Student Affairs and collaborates with the Student Affairs senior management team to advance the strategic direction, vision, and goals of the Division of Student Affairs.
This role leads efforts in strategic planning and assessment, marketing & communications, project management, risk management, and policy development, ensuring alignment with Fordham’s mission and values. The AVP will develop and execute communication strategies that elevate the division’s impact, foster meaningful engagement, and promote positive student experiences. This position will advance and enhance the student experience across all levels of the institution, with a particular focus on graduate students.
The position is based at the Lincoln Center campus but has responsibilities across all Fordham campuses. The position requires regular travel to the Rose Hill / Bronx campus and often requires evening and weekend work.
Essential Functions
- Designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive strategic planning process for Student Affairs.
- Leads the development, execution, and continuous improvement of strategic initiatives. Provides guidance to departments on strategic planning, goal setting, and execution.
- Utilizes data and assessment results to drive decision-making, performance improvement, and innovation within the division.
- Collaborates with key campus stakeholders to ensure alignment of student affairs strategic initiatives with broader institutional goals and priorities.
- Manages complex, multi-departmental projects, ensuring effective coordination across units.
- In collaboration with University Marketing and Communications, designs, implements, and maintains a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to promote student engagement and enhance and elevate visibility.
- Oversees internal and external communications, including social media, newsletters, websites, and other marketing materials. Develops clear, impactful messaging for various internal and external audiences.
- Monitors, evaluates, and reports on the performance and effectiveness of communications and strategic initiatives to inform decision-making.
- Designs and manages a division-wide approach to policy development and publications, including University Regulations and divisional handbooks. Maintains a shared library of standard policies and processes.
- Oversees risk management and develops consistent processes and standards to assess risk and develop mitigation strategies, including assisting the Vice President in working with Legal Counsel.
- Develops and implements a shared project management system to provide consultation support, improve efficiency and track progress.
- Collaborates with the graduate and professional school deans, academic departments, faculty, and students to improve the graduate student experience, coordinating quality service and support for graduate students.
