Foreign Policy (FP) is seeking talented, early-career editors for its editorial fellowship program starting in August. This yearlong position offers candidates the chance to work closely with our team of experienced editors and writers, analyzing the most important issues and developments around the world. Editorial fellows can expect to develop their editing skills and take on a growing share of newsroom responsibilities on newsletters, planning, social media, and more.

We’re looking for curious, creative, and collaborative candidates who have a passion for international politics and a commitment to high-quality journalism. We consider fellows to be essential members of the team.

Applicants should have a high level of interest in the nuts and bolts of putting together both a web publication and a print magazine, an ability to navigate the line between academic writing and general-interest journalism, a keen understanding of the news cycle, and know how to juggle multiple projects on tight deadlines.

Applications close on Feb. 10.

Fellows will :

  • Edit stories for FP and prepare them for publication under the supervision of senior editors.
  • Curate and produce newsletters.
  • Review submissions and participate in pitch meetings.
  • Generate article ideas and help with news planning calendar.
  • Assist in all elements of print and web production, including layouts, research, and fact-checking.

Candidates should have :

  • Strong academic credentials, including at least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated interest in world news and international politics, and policy.
  • Preferred : Experience living outside the United States and / or knowledge of a language other than English.
  • Legal right to work in the United States.
  • Compensation : $50,000 annually

    Foreign Policy was founded in 1970 with the intention of leading a root-and-branch rethink of how the United States engages with other countries. We showcase the smartest ideas and analysis on global affairs, written by experts and practitioners of international relations. Although FP exists on many platforms, including on our website, a quarterly print edition, award-winning podcasts, and through live video journalism, we will always be first and foremost a magazine of politics and ideas, covering parts of the world underserved in other English-language media and bringing a nuanced, global perspective to more familiar stories.

    Working at Foreign Policy

    We have a preference for candidates in the D.C. area. D.C.-based staff are required to work from the office at least one day a month, with all U.S.-based staff convening in D.C. a few times a year.

    Foreign Policy requires that all employees be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
