What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Coach position at Forest County Potawatomi Community?
About the job:
Creates and implements tutorial programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing, and test preparation. Maintains appropriate records of attendance and activities.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Participates in all required meetings; enter detailed case management notes, prepare weekly progress reports, and input data for database for appropriate supervisors, always maintaining confidentiality.
- Tutors students individually or in scheduled group study sessions to review principles, solve problems, and review for tests.
- Works with academic plans that the school district along with staff and parents design for student as needed.
- Identifies “at-risk” students on an emergency basis and monitors progress.
- Facilitates academic skills for proficiency in reading, writing, mathematics, and other academic subjects.
- Creates an effective environment for learning by demonstrating positive role model behaviors.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrators and teachers to meet the student’s needs.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- High School Diploma or HSED
- One year tutoring experience
- Must have a valid, clean driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age
- Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
- Passion and patience for instruction, encouragement and developing successful learning strategies for each student
Preferred qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Education or related field preferred
- Experience with Native American children preferred
