Summary:
To provide a support system within the FCP community for youth needing ongoing support as they work towards achieving mental, physical and spiritual health. This position will focus on abstinence from drugs, alcohol, and other destructive behaviors. The coach will work with youth individually, by hosting groups, or even partnering with other Tribal Departments and local agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with school, parents, Tribal departments, and community groups to provide and promote information and awareness on alcohol, drugs, and other destructive habits and behaviors
- Works with counselors as a member of the youth care team in meeting the goals with treatment plans
- Provides transportation as it pertains to helping youth engage in educational, physical, emotional, and spiritual activities
- Assists youth in identifying their own personal interests/goals and the steps needed to achieve them, while encouraging positive growth and development
- Supports connections to community based, mutual self-help groups. Facilitates and attend meetings as appropriate with youth
- Researches, develops, and facilitates programs and activities for youth and their families
- Cooperates with the Forest County Youth Liaison Officer to be an advocate for youth and adult partnerships to address gaps in the child’s needs
- Identifies and educates the community on trials that the youth are experiencing and provides steps that can prevent them
- Connects youth with programs that strengthen spiritual and cultural teachings
Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work flexible and non-traditional hours as needed to support programming needs. Evening and weekend hours’ availability will be required
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Knowledge of evidenced base prevention programs, family systems, chemical abuse and dependency, networking, consultation techniques, and practices preferred.
- Good understanding and respect for each individual’s recovery
- Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
- FCP complies with all CDC vaccine and testing recommendations for healthcare professionals. Proof of immunizations is required and immunizations/testing provided upon hire.
- Employees working in alcohol abuse or drug treatment fields are required to be free from alcohol abuse and illegal drug use for at least two years prior to placement, and while working in the position.
