Varsity Sideline/Competitive Cheer Assistant Coach
Central High
Reports To: Athletic Director and Principal
Salary: As described in the supplemental contract of the Master Agreement between the Board of Education, Forest Hills Public Schools, and Forest Hills NEA-MEA District Association.
Job Summary: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills with parents and students required
- Applicant should have the ability to establish an environment in which athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image
- Applicant must establish a team that demonstrates good sportsmanship
- Cheer and/or coaching experience preferred
- Flexible time commitment
- First aid and CPR knowledge preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and communicate clear and specific goals for the team and individual players
- Maintain open and honest communication with students, parents, other coaches, and Athletic Director
- Develop and demonstrate a good knowledge base of best practices specific to their coaching arena
- Support and collaborate with coaches in other athletic programs
- Model and teach skills necessary to compete successfully
- Support student academic expectations, responsibilities, and achievements
- Develop the knowledge and understanding of Forest Hills Public Schools policies and procedures as it applies to athletics
- Promote and enforce the student-athlete code of conduct
- Connect athletic experiences with life experiences
- Provide an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players
- Model good sportsmanship always
- Create and maintain a safe and healthy environment for student athletes
- Demonstrate positive leadership style with student-athletes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, jump, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus. Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.

Annually by either the head coach, athletic director and/or principal

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District. Seasonal position.
