What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Manager position at Forest Home?
JOB SUMMARY: Manages the First Aid department, which consists of CA licensed nurses and residential nursing students, known as health techs. The first aid department triages illness’ and injuries, provides basic first aid and responds to medical emergencies for Forest Home guests and staff during winter and summer program events. They also provide medication distribution to youth campers attending program events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates as an active member of the Forest Home team, upholding the Mission, Vision and core values of Forest Home.
- Responsible for hiring and management of all First Aid employees including; recruiting, interviewing, supervising, training, scheduling, evaluating and spiritual development.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining all first aid schedules year-round.
- Responsible for creating and updating all first aid policies and procedures in accordance with state and county laws, medical recommendations from AAP, CDC, ACN and ACA guidelines, while considering camp nursing common practices.
- Manages all first aid staff licensing and credentials.
- Responsible for communicating with guests as needed, regarding all aspects of first aid.
- Administers prescription and OTC medication per Forest Home first aid policy.
- Administers medical care to guests and staff according to Forest Home first aid policies.
- Ensures that the First Aid Department operates in accordance with HIPPA guidelines.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Current California Registered Nurse license
- Current HCPBLS card
- Preferred two years nursing experience in camp environment
- Preferred two years experience managing nurses in any environment
- Excellent triage skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment with quick decision making.
