What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Lifeguard Ojai Valley position at Forest Home?
JOB SUMMARY:
To guard and protect the patrons that use the Forest Home aquatic facilities. To maintain cleanliness and safety of all aquatics facilities and to provide excellent customer service in order to create a fun, welcoming Christ-centered environment.
JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform lifeguard duties at the pool facility
- Reaches and maintains a level of physical fitness that meets the American Red Cross standard for lifeguards (see below)
- Supports and upholds Recreation safety plans and procedures
- Assures equipment is inspected and maintained
- Provide excellent and Christ like service to guests and fellow staff
- Performs other duties as assigned. (Lifeguards may have the opportunity to train and work in other parts of Forest Homes recreation dept which include Ziplines, Climbing Wall, Hikes, light buildings & grounds maintenance and other camp work.)
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard, & AED certification, or be willing and psychically able to be certified. The American red cross pre training swim test consists of the following:
- 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
- Tread water for 2 minutes without stopping
- Swim 20 yards then dive to retrieve a submerged 10-pound object. Swim another 20 yards carrying the 10-pund object back to the starting point

- Working towards High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior lifeguard experience preferred but not required. Forest Home will provide a American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR AED & First Aid training and certification.
- Preferred experience in job or ministry that requires guest interaction and service with people of all ages.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud at times.
