JOB SUMMARY:
The Recreation staff work hard to provide recreational safety and leadership, outstanding customer service, spiritual direction, and a welcoming environment to all guests of Forest Home Ojai Valley.
Job Details:
- After training, responsible for safely operating 2 zip lines, climbing walls, archery range, arrow tag, retail camp store, and light camp maintenance/cleaning.
- No prior experience needed but always welcomed!
- Under age 18 is acceptable if a work permit can be obtained.
- This position requires extensive training. Forest Home will provide all necessary training to operate recreation elements safely. Further employment depends on successfully completing training.
- We offer reasonable flexibility for school schedules and second jobs.
- Saturday availability is required; full weekend availability is preferred.
- Our recreation elements operate year-round.
- Starting pay is $17.00 per hour.
- Opportunities exist to cross-train for different departments and positions (e.g., Lifeguard, Food Service, Guest Conference Hosting, Buildings & Grounds, etc.).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in recreation programs as assigned.
- Responsible for the daily setup, inspection, cleanup, and operation of zip lines, climbing walls, archery & arrow tag ranges, camp store, or other recreation activities.
- Provide instructions to guests regarding safety and the operation of recreation programs to ensure smooth and safe operation.
- Clean platform tents and guest cabins after each guest group’s departure.
- Obtain First Aid, CPR/AED certifications, and possibly "Association of Challenge Course Technology Level 1 Facilitator."
- Understand and uphold the Recreation Safety Emergency Action Plan and procedures.
- Assure equipment is inspected and maintained to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
- Maintain inventories and supplies with good communication regarding needed changes.
- Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to help out in areas outside this job description in various departments at Forest Home.
- Support and participate in spiritual life activities.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Working toward a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred but not required: work experience in a camp setting.
- Preferred: experience in jobs or ministries that require guest interaction and service with people of all ages.
- Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and perform minor first aid if needed.
- Interest in and personal engagement with outdoor recreation activities preferred (hiking, rock climbing, camping, swimming, surfing, challenge courses, etc.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Requires mild physical work; some lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 20 pounds.
- Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking/hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person.
ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work inside and outside in extreme heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Walk, sit, and stand for 6-8 hours a day.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet off the ground.
- Ascend/descend ladders, stairs, cables, and poles with hands and feet.
- Lift and transport 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs.
- Walk up to a mile daily.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, and unpleasant odors.
- Noise levels may range from moderate to loud.
