Summary: The Director of the Forest Lake hospitality and events business is primarily responsible for business development and execution of all rental and event activities occurring outside the core eight-week children and family camp season. The Director generates rental and event revenue by developing market potential through calendar planning, lead generation, selling a variety of events and closing sales. The Director has the overall responsibility of managing the execution of the events and other provided services (which include but are not limited to the following: weddings, corporate retreats, school groups, sports team training/tournaments, family reunions, commercial/TV/movie shoots, church groups and other potential proprietary events and opportunities) including managing the interface with the client and coordination and management of all staff and on-site activities to ensure excellence. The Director ensures the quality of food and beverage service, and works with clients to organize experiences, events, or services. In short, to ensure that the venue exceeds guests' expectations and needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Camp Responsibilities
Support Forest Lake Camp’s mission of providing the best traditional summer camp experience for all campers and guests.
- Act as a team player working closely with the Forest Lake Camp Administrative staff to further the mission and principles of Forest Lake Camp.
- Work independently to provide strong leadership in support of camp’s business strategy.
- Offer input and creative ideas that will enhance the experience of our guests and support the overall Forest Lake Camp brand.
- Strive to develop and grow personally and professionally through professional development opportunities.
- Lead and support the opening and closing of the physical camp property.
Business Development Responsibilities
- Generate prospects through marketing, advertising, and personal visits.
- Work with Marketing Director on website design and targeted social media marketing related to special events.
- Contribute information to market strategy, price, and services by monitoring competitive locations as well as reactions/feedback from renters.
- Initiate sales process by scheduling appointments and tours, making initial presentation (via email, phone or in person), and understanding renters’ requirements.
- Close sales by building rapport with potential renters; explaining offerings and capabilities; overcoming objections; preparing contracts.
- Expand sales opportunities to contracted and repeat renters by introducing new products and services.
Delivery Responsibilities
- Act as on-site Manager for all rental and hospitality events.
- Work with renter to plan the details of their event, including but not limited to food services, assisting with outside vendors, housing assignments, schedule and money/payment collection.
- Provide input and expertise in the designation of annual budgets for the rentals business.
- Hire and manage event staff for all rental events.
- Help determine and then manage costs to agreed-upon budgets.
- Responsible for preparing, negotiating and recording all rental and events contracts.
- Work as a team player when needed for other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- Experience in a summer camp or outdoor setting preferred.
- A minimum of three years of event planning experience required.
- A minimum of three years of sales experience required.
- A minimum of three years of experience in managing people required.
- Must have knowledge of working with both children and adults in an outdoor environment.
- Must have a customer-service orientation.
- Must be able to establish and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to recognize and resolve problems collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team player.
- Must have good communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Must possess the ability to work in the United States.
- Must be able to work on grounds during events (weekends in May, June, August and September).
- Must be able to work in an office atmosphere during July and August.
- Must have the ability to work from a home office for the remainder of the year.
