The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 160 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.
The district's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure, and recreation of its citizens.
Job Summary
This position will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and administrative support to their assigned site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Greet and welcome visitors to the site, providing friendly and helpful assistance.
• Answer visitor inquiries in person, over the phone, and via email, providing accurate and detailed information about the center's offerings, exhibits, and services.
• Handle complaints or issues with patience and professionalism.
• Perform general clerical duties, such as data entry, filing, record keeping, and preparing mailings.
• Open, operate, and regularly close the site's visitor center.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized visitor center environment.
• Process merchandise sales and handle supplies, including pricing merchandise, operating cash registers, handling payments, maintaining accurate inventory records, cleaning shelves and displays, and operating the storage of merchandise.
• Assist with the preparation and distribution of promotional materials, brochures, and visitor guides.
• Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits; Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and work procedures; Follow all safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the District's safety and risk management program; Keep work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards; Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
• Maintains a supportive working environment and demonstrates a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
• Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
• Experience in customer service, retail, or a related field is preferred.
• Point of sales systems knowledge is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
• Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems.
• Social and situational perceptiveness.
• Time management skills.
• Ability to keep neat and accurate records.
• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Coordination when dealing and working with others.
• Dealing effectively with the public.
Schedule: Position starts May 5th. Expected end date is around late August. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Pay: $17-19/hour.
Work Environment: Requires working indoors at the Forest Preserve's HQ location in Wheaton.
