Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for our Nurse Extender position.
The Nurse Extender coordinates care under the direction of the psychiatrist for each unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates a knowledge base of both psychiatric and medical disorders of adult, geriatric, child and adolescent patients.
- Competent in assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with co-occurring disorders, eating disorders, and trauma backgrounds.
- Contacts family, support people, parents, and guardians to facilitate contact with psychiatrist.
- Accurately transcribes physician orders according to nursing policy and procedure.
- Delivers medication education to patients and family.
- Monitors lab and other testing for completion and abnormalities.
- Assists with discharge planning and works with patients and families at time of discharge.
- Takes calls from discharged patients regarding medication renewals, concerns, and refers to psychiatrist as appropriate.
- Updates knowledge base for all psychiatric patients by providing education opportunities regarding diagnosis and medication.
- Participates with other personnel in maintaining safe and therapeutic milieu.
- Adheres to the Infection Control policies and procedures of the hospital and follows standard precautions at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Hours: The hours for this position are Monday-Friday, day shift, with one weekend required per month. (32 hours per week)
About Universal Health Services
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan.
- 2-3 years previous psychiatric nursing experience.
- CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.
- Previous Case Management experience preferred but not required.
