Major Responsibilities
The Part Time Pediatrician is responsible for the provision of comprehensive pediatric primary care to the Forestdale foster care population as assigned. Reports to the Medical Director, relates to the Director for Health Administration, and the Assistant Executive Director of Health Services
- Medically examines children. Depending on the type of examination, tasks may include:
- Checking for child growth and development
- Treating illness, acute and chronic health problems, and growth/development concerns.
- Collecting, recording, and maintaining patient information via timely and complete documentation.
- Prescribing and/or administering treatment, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury in infants and children
- Review risk assessments prior to patient’s visit
- Providing patient education on reproductive health.
- Working with behavioral health providers to support and manage the emotional/psychiatric needs of children.
- Educating caregivers and monitoring healthcare needs.
- Following up after medical appointments, urgent/emergency care, or hospitalizations.
- Ordering prescriptions
- Care Coordination
- Screenings for child abuse and neglect
Minimum Requirements
- NYS License in Child and Adolescent Medicine
- Medical Degree from a U.S. accredited institution
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with child welfare or similar pediatric populations
- Computer proficiency
- Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.
- Required background checks, including: NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse/Maltreatment, NYS Sex Offender Registry, NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services fingerprinting, NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List, NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List.
- Mandated reporter training.
- Current certification by American Red Cross (or equivalent) in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Applicable provisions of the NYS Education Law with respect to hiring and retaining of licensed professionals.
