Adventure Summer Program - Teacher Assistant

Description:
The Malden Out-of-School Time (MOST) Program provides after school, vacation, and summer programs for the Malden Public Schools. Our programs follow the MPS calendar and the after school programs operate from school day dismissal until 5:30pm including early release days. Full day programs are offered during February and April school vacation weeks and during summer break. It is our mission to provide high quality, affordable, Out-of-School Time care to Malden students in grades K through 6.
The Summer Teacher Assistant works directly with students and assists the Summer Teacher with supervision, safety, and participation of students in all aspects of the program.
Responsibilities:
*The program dates and hours are June 23, 2025 - August 1, 2025 (Monday - Friday) from 8am - 4pm.
Pre Program Session
- Attend mandatory Summer Program Orientation and assist with program set up
Assist with
- Engaging students in small and large group activities
- Supervising students during all aspects of the afterschool program including arrival, transitions, snack, bathrooms, outdoor play, enrichment clubs and dismissal
- Managing student behavior in accordance with MOST school day/afterschool policy
- Implement student accommodations (if applicable)
- Maintaining classroom environment including set up, maintenance of supplies and clean up
- Working collaboratively with program staff
- Build positive relationship with families
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- The essential functions of this position are performed indoors as well as outdoors.
- During a typical workday, incumbent will:
- Perform functions that will necessitate him/ her to have a strong overall level of strength and physical ability
- Be expected to exert an extensive and frequent level of talking, seeing, hearing and walking
- Be expected to exert a moderate level of standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/ pulling, bending, climbing and kneeling
Qualifications:
- Prefer at least 6 months experience working in with school-age children, social emotional learning, project-based curriculum planning and/or special education
- Ability to set clear limits and supervise school age students
- Experience in working with diverse learners and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
Terms of Employment:
- Work Monday - Friday, from 7:45am - 4:15pm
- Required to obtain Mandated Reporter Training
Salary: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
