At the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), we are committed to serving the people of Oregon by protecting, managing, and promoting stewardship of Oregon’s forests to enhance environmental, economic, and community sustainability. We are seeking a dynamic, people-focused, visionary leader to be the Human Resources Director for ODF. A strong candidate for this role must be an exceptional communicator who values the art of listening, engages in collaborative decision-making, and ensures the Human Resources team has the tools and resources to provide support to the employees we serve.
As the Human Resources Director, you will be responsible for directing, managing, and overseeing human resource services for an agency of approximately 800 permanent and 700 seasonal positions throughout the state. You’ll lead the development and implementation of forward-thinking HR policies and practices that support a diverse workforce and empower employees to thrive. You will supervise a team of seven human resource professionals to support these efforts.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • Seven years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience;
OR
  • Four years of related experience AND a Bachelor's degree in a related field
Requested Attributes:
  • Advanced experience in leading, managing and supervising an HR team supporting a decentralized organization.
  • Experience hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Experience developing strategic plans, supporting the agency mission and delivery of centralized services.
  • Experience creating a stable, supportive work environment that fosters professional growth.
  • Transformational leadership experience and demonstrated ability to effectively influence and engage others to impact organizational – wide, systems change.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of racial equity, diversity, and inclusion and effective and meaningful public engagement practices.
  • In depth knowledge of governance initiatives and best practices related to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion and meaningful and meaningful public engagement in the private and/or public sectors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including ability to communicate clearly and effectively in high-pressure situations and identify an audience’s needs and tailor information accordingly.
