What we are looking for:
The Biological Support Unit Manager will provide leadership, management, and supervision, directly overseeing a team of 8. This unit specializes in providing guidance and collaboration on the implementation and administration of forest management plans, habitat conservation plans, and other Division policies. Key responsibilities encompass:
- Serving as the Agency Administrator for habitat conservation plans.
- Aid in the formulation of district Implementation and Annual Operations plans, as well as individual timber sales and projects.
- Compile and interpret technical data.
- Draft Division policies and procedures in areas of unit specialization.
- Deliver field support.
- Ensure compliance for threatened and endangered species.
- Develop and roll out training specific to the Unit's expertise.
- Contribute to program research, monitoring, information system development, and enhancement of business processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience
OR
Two years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Ecology, Aquatic Sciences or a closely related natural resources degree.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:
- Ability to lead and supervise a staff of natural resource specialists in the fields of watershed and riparian function and wildlife ecology.
- Ability to establish work priorities in alignment with division and agency priorities and strategies.
- Ability to play an integral role in budget development, expenditure tracking.
- Ability to collaborate with legal entities to address pertinent issues, track legal risks, and contribute to legislative developments.
- Ability to oversee contract management, from the inception of RFPs to contract administration.
- Proficient-level to advanced-level for the enterprise to effectively communicate, mentor and develop staff, provide stewardship, and engagement with Division Policies.
