What we are looking for:
ODF is looking for a Wildland Fire Supervisor to Assist the Unit Forester in the implementation of the Protection from Fire Program in the Pendleton Unit. These goals and related duties are in the areas of:
- Directly supervising and managing the field aspects of the Pendleton Unit fire protection program, including prevention, preparedness, and suppression.
- Recruiting, selection, and termination; plans, assigns, and approves work; responds to grievances; disciplines and rewards; and prepares and signs performance appraisals for wildland fire control personnel.
- Enforcement of ORS chapter 477 and managing the Unit burning permit and uniform citation program.
- Assures that fires under the position’s control, either directly or indirectly, are being aggressively managed and investigated in accordance with Departmental and District policy.
- Assures that all wildfire suppression personnel used on the Unit are adequately trained and prepared to safely accomplish all assigned tasks
- Responsibility for construction, acquisition, maintenance, and accountability of Unit facilities and equipment in accordance with District and Unit plans, policies, and budget constraints.
- Management of the Federal Excess Personal Property program for rural fire protection districts in Umatilla County and in portions of Morrow and Gilliam Counties, and for the Pendleton Unit of the ODF.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one (1) year of leading/supervising the work of others;
OR
Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field AND two (2) years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one (1) year of leading/supervising the work of others.
Note: Some positions are required to successfully take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the moderate level.
Note: Some positions must obtain the Class B Warden certification within the trial service period.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
