Fork Union Military Academy is offering an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in managing and coordinating payroll and benefits transactions while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and best practices. You will work closely with Human Resources and the accounting teams to provide accurate payroll services and maintain seamless operations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Accurately and efficiently process bi-weekly payroll transactions, including pay updates, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Perform monthly PTO audits and accruals
- Ensure compliance with relevant payroll laws and best practices
- Collaborate with HR and accounting teams for smooth operations
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies and promptly resolve employee payroll issues
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files, including updates to salaries, job classifications, and tax withholdings.
- Assist in audits by providing documentation and resolving queries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
- Cross train with Human Resources to perform additional duties as needed.
- Stay updated on tax laws to ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll laws.
Qualifications :
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar role is also preferred. The ideal candidate should be proficient in payroll software (e.g., iSolved, Paylocity, ADP, or similar systems) as well as the Microsoft Office Suite. A strong understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance requirements is essential. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, along with strong communication abilities, are required, especially in handling sensitive information confidentially. Certification such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus, or a willingness to attain certification.
This is a full-time 32- hour position, which may require additional hours during payroll deadlines and audits. Must adhere to a strict confidentiality policy. This is an onsite position, located in Fork Union, Virginia. Ability to sit, stand, squat, kneel, or work on a computer for extended periods of time and be able to push, pull or lift 20 lbs. as needed.
Must successfully pass a background check and drug testing .
