Role Description
The Advanced Product Development team is a multidisciplinary group, focused on delivering designs for the next generation of Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. The team brings designs from concept phase through initial production builds, detailing concepts along the way to choose the best path to meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability.
Form Energy is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design key subassemblies for our next generation of iron-air batteries!. As part of our Advanced Product Development team, you will conceive, design and release complex electromechanical subassemblies at the core of Form's energy storage systems. Your design work will span a broad range of engineering disciplines, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics. You will back up theoretical designs with thorough verification plans and hands-on testing, exploring nuanced trades between cost and efficiency. You'll collaborate with a large cross-functional team to bring assembly CAD from concept to release to mass manufacturing. What you'll do :
Create white-page designs that will be the foundation of Form Energy's next-generation product
Perform hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated prototypes
Work with consulting companies, vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
Run and analyze trials to inform specs and future design direction
Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)
Drive verification testing of your design work
What you'll bring :
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 5 years, or Master's with industry experience in mechanical design.
Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for mass manufacturing and assembly, especially sheet metal and injection molded plastic components.
Experienced with writing and executing test plans to make data-driven decisions.
Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment.
Experience with structural FEA
