Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.

SUMMARY
Provide prompt accurate laboratory analysis

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Prepare and analyze standards and controls
Perform titrations
Monitor and interpret equipment performance
Work safely without environmental releases
Analyze materials using various analyzers and instruments
Calibrate various analyzers and instruments
Properly dispose of analysis wastes
Train on new methods, techniques and equipment
Operate various analytical instruments effectively
Communicate potential problem areas of relief
Maintain a clean area
Monitor supplies level and ordering
Report out of specification analysis to operating units
Approve product shipments to customers by evaluation against specifications
Evaluate properly labeled or contained samples, report violations to supervisor
Monitor sampling schedule versus samples received
Cooperate with other lab analysts and operators for effective problem solving
Promptly record and report analysis to the operations units
Produce SPC and SQC charts as well as interpreting the data
Perform simple mechanical work for preventative and maintenance on laboratory equipment
Properly handle all toxic, flammable and hazardous substances in accordance with company guidelines
Maintain knowledge of the hazards and requirements of the job duties
store retained samples and dump expired samples per SOP's
Monitor inventory and operating levels of laboratory gases (cylinders)
Assist in training new analysts as required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Completion of a minimum of 12 hours of College Chemistry. Previous experience in the application of laboratory testing, operations, safety and documentation in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; oils and other fluids and liquids; unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
