Title: Field Service Laser & Plasma Cutting Technician
Reports To: Field Service Manager
Scope of Position:
Detect and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues with the Laser and Plasma Cutting machines. Oversee all aspects of installations, service-related areas, and coordinate.
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical and electrical field service is required, including completed industrial installations at customer worksites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, set up, and repair Vulcan Laser plasma cutting and laser machines, ensuring they function as manufactured.
- Assemble, build, test, and debug new plasma and laser cutting machines, assessing needs and fabricating fixtures for testing.
- Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs and programming skills are preferred.
- Travel to customer locations for field service calls.
- Coordinate field startups and servicing with the Service Manager for sales, customers, vendors, and Formtek personnel.
- Troubleshoot mechanical or electrical components and repair as needed.
- Evaluate job requirements and identify necessary logistics with the Service Manager.
- Involve sales and engineering teams as required.
- Track parts required for assembly.
- Assist in repairs and maintenance of shop equipment.
- Train customer staff on new equipment operation and review safety precautions.
- Read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Approximately 25-35% travel time is estimated, varying depending on service projects' needs. A current driver's license and valid passport are required.
- Ensure accurate processing of paperwork for billing and accounting purposes.
- Suggest alternatives, new equipment, or upgrades that may enhance order completion and profitability.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years of mechanical field service experience or industrial equipment installation.
- Proficient in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, machine installation, and wiring.
Sales Support:
- Conduct machine evaluations to determine if repairs require upgrades, etc.
Education/Experience:
A manufacturing or mechanical background with 3-5 years or more of experience is typically required.
- PC skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet)
- Allen Bradley PLC software/programming
- Time Management/Organizational skills
- Good customer service skills
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities; coordination with other field service technicians and assistance when needed.
Work Environment:
This position is based in Formtek's Twinsburg, Ohio facility, with primarily domestic travel to customer worksites for service-related tasks.
