Job Summary:
The ER Technician performs under the direct supervision of an RN in assisting the professional nursing staff by performing specific functions relating to patient care in the ED. The ED Tech is ultimately accountable and responsible to the ER Patient Care Coordinator. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations:
- Accurately obtains vital signs as needed and at discharge.
- Assist physicians with procedures.
- Performs the physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients, utilizing safety measures for both yourself and /or the patient.
- Treats all patients with respect and maintains confidentiality.
- Competent in operating computer, fax, and copier, call light and telephone.
- Quickly and efficiently clean and turns over rooms utilizing standard cleaning procedure.
- Appropriately communicate and interact with care providers and team members, patients/families and visitors.
- Performs all duties with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Properly identify patients and prepare patient armbands, and label any chart items without error.
- Monitors supply levels and order supplies accordingly.
- Set up a sterile field without contamination.
- Facilitate transportation for transfers to a higher level of care.
- Multitask and prioritize workload.
- Utilize excellent communication skills while answering the telephone and call lights.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform assembly and break down of charts
- Maintain Isolation procedure as indicated
- Handwashing Compliance completed 100% of the time while on duty
- Defrost refrigerators as needed, organize and clean equipment room daily, restock blankets warmer
- Clean rooms, stretchers, and sanitize equipment as defined by manufacturing guidelines.
- Restock supplies and linen
- Attend staff meetings and complete assigned education modules on time.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Experience:
Related work experience in emergency healthcare field preferred
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
- Basic Life Support
