The Infection Preventionist performs under the direct supervision of the Director of Quality Management. The primary responsibility is to assure that policies and procedures are developed and implemented to prevent and control infections. The Infection Preventionist has the oversight authority for cooperating with departments in performance improvement activities. Other responsibilities include surveillance, analysis, reporting, and recording as well as setting standards and evaluating compliance for practices that are associated with the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical leaders and managers to implement prevention and control measures. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element of the Formula for Success. Requires the promotion and adherence to the organization’s established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Performs other duties as assigned by the QM Director.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Associate degree or Bachelor degree in nursing, or Bachelor degree in medical laboratory science required. Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required for nurses.
Work Experience:
An individual with previous experience in the area of infection surveillance, prevention, and control is preferred. This person should possess a broad knowledge base and/or job experience in areas related to the application of epidemiological principles and infectious disease, concepts of sterilization, disinfection, sanitation, and adult education principles and practices related to patient care. Effective decision-making and communication skills are required. Minimum of two years clinical experience in an acute care hospital with two months of orientation to the position.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Current License with the MS State Board of Nursing or BSMT (ASCP) or equivalent
- CIC Certification
