Job Summary : Under direct supervision of the modality supervisor, performs patient examinations and related activities; performs patient exams in accordance with established protocols, demonstrates knowledge of digital environment; reviews images prior to archiving to PACS and for submission to radiologists for interpretation, maintains patient records; assures the correct patient is being imaged in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers prior to completing examination, and patient#s clinical history is complete; completes associated paperwork, performs QA / QC on equipment, as needed. The mammography tech is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies; presenting them for diagnosis. Stocks exam rooms with basic supplies, maintains and adheres to accepted sterile techniques and provides clean environment within examination area. Provide student technologists with the basic procedural concepts within responsible modality. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient#s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient#s requirements relative to his / her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice. Performance Expectations : Displays the ability to utilize the ALARA principle on all exams performed to keep patient dose at a minimum Practices radiation shielding when possible on all patients to prevent radiation exposure. Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills with fellow staff and customers. Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view. Possesses technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of Radiology equipment including but not limited to Pacs, RIS, IDI workstation and Mammography Equipment by successfully opening help desk tickets and or calling the equipment vendor and recording the log ticket number. Said log ticket will be given to the Supervisor.#Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.#Safely maintains the sterile field, and assist the Physician#s as needed with few if any errors. Follows universal protocol standards to properly identify patients who present for testing to ensure the correct test is performed on the correct customer. Exhibit the ability to successfully explain the proper exam preparation to all patients scheduled and answer any question the patient have. Properly places orders for testing in the hospital#s EMR system, according to Radiant Tip sheets. Monitor supply levels and order supplies accordingly, Displays the ability to multitask and prioritize workload to prevent delays in patient care. Works efficiently within Excel and Microsoft Word to accomplish daily task Tolerates physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and / or patient to prevent accidents. Is competent to access and utilize EMR for the provision of patient care. Possess the ability to print patient CD#s, and properly identify the correct patient receives CD. Demonstrates the ability to request outside film from another facility in a timely manner Completes all Radiology consent forms prior to beginning a procedure. Qualifications : # # # # # # # # #Education / Skills Graduate from an approved AMA school of radiologic technology and registry eligible in mammography. Must maintain 12 Category a CEU#s specific to Mammography yearly. # # # # # # # # #Work Experience : Three year experience in diagnostic radiology and one year in mammography (preferred) Certification / Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE Licensed with Mississippi Department of Health (MSRT) American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT R.T.
