Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Radiology supervisor, performs patient examinations and related activities; performs patient exams in accordance with established protocols, demonstrates knowledge of digital environment; reviews images prior to archiving to PACS and for submission to radiologists for interpretation, maintains patient records and knowledgeable in RIS; assures the correct patient is being imaged in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers prior to completing examination, and patient's clinical history is complete; completes associated paperwork, performs QA/QC on equipment, as needed. Stocks exam rooms with basic supplies, starts IVs and/or administers contrast, as needed, maintains and adheres to accepted sterile techniques and provides a clean environment within the examination area. Provide student technologists with the basic procedural concepts within a responsible modality. Share emergency calls, as required. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice.
Performance Expectations:
- Communicates with excellent oral and written skills.
- Poses the ability for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of Radiology equipment, including but not limited to Pacs, RIS,
- Safely maintain the sterile field, and assist the Physician as needed.
- Is competent with ultrasound equipment.
- Is competent to perform high-level disinfectant on endo cavity probes using Trophon disinfectant system.
- Properly identify patients who present for testing.
- Verifies orders and performs said orders.
- Properly place orders for testing in the hospital’s computer system.
- Monitors supply levels and order supplies accordingly.
- Properly collects, labels, and delivers biopsy specimens to Lab in a timely manner.
- Multi-tasks and prioritizes workload.
- Capable of working within Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Tolerates physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients, utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or patients.
- Accesses and utilizes EMR for the provision of patient care.
- Prints patient CDs
- Able to request outside film from another facility.
- Completes all Radiology consent forms prior to beginning a procedure.
- Multi-tasks and work on multiple systems simultaneously.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate from an approved AMA ultrasound school or registered by ARDMS. Must maintain 12 CEU’s yearly.
Work Experience:
One year experience in ultrasound and Radiography (preferred).
