Forrest M. Bird Charters School, a small school of approximately 255 students in Sandpoint, Idaho, is seeking a passionate and dedicated 9-12 Science Teacher to join our dynamic educational team. In this role, you will inspire and engage high school students in their scientific learning journey, fostering a love for science and critical thinking skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Our ideal candidate will be committed to creating stimulating learning environment using Project Based Learning/ STEM techniques that encourages student curiosity and exploration.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and promote inquiry-based learning.
- Teach a variety of science subjects, including but not limited to chemistry, physics, environmental science, and biology ensuring a comprehensive understanding of each field.
- Create an interactive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and collaboration.
- Assess and evaluate student performance through various methods, including quizzes, projects, and hands-on activities, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, adapting lessons and materials to ensure accessibility for every student.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the science curriculum and participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends and best practices.
- Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment, promoting positive behavior and conflict resolution among students.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement, building strong home-school connections.
- Participate in school events, committees, and extracurricular activities to support the overall mission of the school community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science Education or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification in Science for grades 9-12, or the ability to obtain a teaching certification in the sciences.
- Strong knowledge of current science curricula and educational technology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
