Title : Director of Purchasing (Exempt position)

Position Summary : The director of purchasing is responsible for leading the development and implementation of sound, cost-effective strategies for the purchasing of needed equipment, services, materials, and supplies used in the organization. This position will evaluate spending operations while seeking ways to improve and enhance the quality of products purchased and the timeliness of deliveries. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fastpaced, deadline-driven environment. We are looking for someone who is a resourceful, creative, strategic thinker with an upbeat, positive attitude and is eager to support the agency's mission, achieve its strategic goals, and make a difference in the community.
Education and Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in purchasing management, business administration or equivalent field as deemed by the agency; relevant field;
- Eight years of experience in purchasing;
- Two years supervisory / management experience;
- Highly organized, motivated self-starter with innate ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload;
- Ability to independently identify problems, needs and opportunities for improvements, to develop solutions and to implement plans / solutions;
- Strong leadership with an ability to influence and drive change within the organization;
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects from conception to completion;
- Superb negotiation skills;
- Ability to fulfill job duties while meeting the highest ethical standards;
- Foster a culture of open and direct dialogue;
- Ability to collaborate with and influence others, in an inclusive manner;
- Ability to identify challenges and provide solutions to resolve the issues;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Computer skills, with a command of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications;
- California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and current automobile liability insurance.
- Experience as a purchasing director or similar position and experience with federal / state funding are preferred qualifications.
