Description

Forsyth Country Day School is a community dedicated to preparing our students for what’s ahead.

The Middle School Assistant Director is responsible for providing leadership for the student experience and well-being, in ways that align with our strategic plan, school mission and vision, and core values. The MS Assistant Director is an integral part of the administrative team, working closely with the Director of the Middle School and other school leaders, faculty, and parents to support students in the growth of their minds, bodies, and overall well-being. The Assistant Director assists in the development and implementation of student policies, programs, and initiatives focusing on enhancing the overall student experience within the middle school division. This is a 12-month position and reports to the Middle School Director.

The ideal candidate will be an individual with significant experience working in school environments, specifically with adolescents in moments of success and achievement and in moments of struggle or challenge. In addition to being compassionate and supportive, candidates should demonstrate exceptional organizational, communication, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and uphold the school’s policy, mission, and core values consistently.

Key Responsibilities

 Leadership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Middle School Director in setting the strategic direction for the middle school division
  • Serve as a member of the division leadership team
  • Work with the division leadership team to provide feedback on and support with academic and social policies (i.e., Student/Parent Handbook) that may affect student learning, as well as protocols and practices that serve to support student development, learning, and wellbeing
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the FCDS community.  Great emphasis is placed on comprehensive communication between the Middle School Assistant Director and students, faculty, and parents. Proper and timely communication is essential in this position.
  • Collaborate with the admissions team to facilitate the enrollment process for incoming middle school students.
  • Promote and model high standards of integrity and professionalism

Student Engagement

  • Implement and support programs that enhance student engagement, character development, and overall well-being
  • Act as a liaison between students, parents, and faculty to address concerns and celebrate achievements
  • Oversee student conduct and discipline, working closely with the Middle School Director and faculty
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee a diverse range of extracurricular activities and clubs to enrich the middle school experience.
  • Organize and execute events such as assemblies, talent shows, and spirit weeks to foster a sense of community and school pride
  • Supports and coordinates the Middle School advisory program
  • Maintains a consistent presence among students throughout the school day, and attends athletic events, arts performances, and other student activities on a regular basis

Teaching

  • Teaches one to two courses in the Middle School

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in education or related field, master's degree preferred
  • Teaching experience, particularly independent school experience, is a plus

Must possess:

  • Willingness to enforce institutional policies
  • Ability to keep information confidential

Essential Functions:

  • Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to operate a computer and have basic knowledge of Google Workspace
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed
  • Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively
