What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Supervisor (Grounds) position at Forsyth County (NC)?
Forsyth County's General Services Department has a Maintenance Supervisor position open in their Grounds Division. This positions primary responsibility is to assist the Grounds Maintenance Manager with the day-to-day operations of the grounds division. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the movements and schedules for the grounds mowing crews, track and complete work orders. This position will also purchase materials, supplies, tools, etc. as needed for crews to complete assigned tasks. Other duties provided by the Grounds Division will require an applicant to provide assistance in all other building trades. Less frequent duties include snow and ice removal, storm cleanup, and elections set-up/break-down services.
An applicant for this position must be willing to work outside year-round. Variety is the most appealing factor for this position, frequent change in duties!
Schedule
During Mowing Season: 6:00 am - 4:30 pm, Four days per week
During Off Season: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday - FridayA successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Thorough knowledge of procedures for care, operation, maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities and grounds, gasoline and diesel engines.
Considerable knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions of mechanical work.
Considerable ability to diagnose causes of defective operation of vehicles.
Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate the work of automotive mechanics.
Ability to prepare cost estimates and shop records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Ability to establish and enforce required safety rules. Ability to read and review contracts, plans and specifications.
Ability to effectively maintain and review data for all required software systems.
An applicant must have the capability to lift 50-100 lbs. occasionally and 10-25 frequently.
Nearly all services provided by the Grounds Division are exposed to the elements. The ability to work in all weather conditions is essential.
The ability to report to work within 45 minutes of being called for snow and ice removal is required. Graduation from high school or GED and five years relevant experience or completion of technical school or trade certification in a building or grounds maintenance trade and three years of experience.
One or more years of supervisory experience is required.
Must have a valid CDL license as duties require the certification to haul loads exceeding 26,000 lbs.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plans, schedules, and supervises the maintenance and repair of building, grounds, parks and equipment performed by maintenance and automotive mechanics.
Conducts performance appraisals, participates in recruitment and selection activities, and provides training to employees.
Assists mechanics in troubleshooting problems.
Issues parts and supplies to mechanics.
Maintains inventories of parts, supplies, and gasoline.
Prepares written reports and maintains records for all required purposes; may monitor and help prepare budget.
Makes arrangements with local vendors to purchase materials, tools, and equipment.
Diagnoses the problem; writes and issues repair orders; determines time and labor for the job; inspects work in progress and upon completion.
Administers a preventive maintenance program for county vehicles.
May administer a preventive maintenance program for county vehicles.
Maintains required information for computer-based work order and preventive maintenance systems and any other required software systems.
Order supplies and materials while researching, ordering and issuing parts and supplies to mechanics as needed.
Assists mechanics in troubleshooting.
Conducts performance appraisals, participate in recruitment and selection and provide training to employees.
Performs related duties as required.
Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
