What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse position at Forsyth County Schools (Georgia)?
Position Summary: Provides support services to designated students in an effort to minimize absences due to illness and create a climate of health and well-being in the schools.
- Conducts and/or coordinates school health program, including vision, hearing and scoliosis screenings as well as assessment of student immunization records.
- Performs student health procedures and medically prescribed interventions such as administration of medication in accordance with Health Services Handbook.
- Coordinates school health care needs of students in consultation with parents and/or guardians, school personnel, physicians and other agencies as appropriate on health matters.
- Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and/or dental care. Consults with school counselors and school social workers as appropriate.
- Maintains up-to-date student health records, including documentation of clinic visits, interventions and resolutions. Completes monthly nurses report regarding all clinic activities. Completes student/staff and visitor incident reports as required.
- Provides education to school personnel related to school safety, such as universal precautions, choking/Heimlich maneuver, asthma, allergies/anaphylaxis and Stop the Bleed training. Other trainings may include, but are not limited to seizures, diabetes, overdose/Narcan administration, CPR and basic first aid.
- Advises on modification of student’s educational program to meet health care needs in order to best promote students physical, emotional and social well-being.
- Prepares and submits reports for the Health Services Facilitator and school administration, as necessary.
- Advises parent/guardian, administration, school personnel, Health Services Facilitator and Department of Public Health related to infectious diseases.
