What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapeutic Recreation Camp Counselor I position at Forsyth County?
This is a seasonal position working for the Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Department’s Therapeutic Recreation summer camp program. The position involves 35-40 hours a week, as a summer camp counselor, working with children and teenagers with special needs.
The purpose of this classification is to ensure a positive and enriching camp experience for camp participants.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Ensures that all rules are followed by camp participants.
Oversees, directs and organizes camp participants.
Prepares facilities and equipment for camp activities.
Learns and implements positive behavior-management techniques.
Maintains clear and positive communication with supervisor, co-workers, parents and camp participants.
Attends weekly field trips.
Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating camp activities.
Administers First Aid and reports injuries/accidents/illnesses to Summer Camp Director.
Serves as role model to camp participants and other staff.
Maintains and stores camp equipment and supplies.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs and complete other duties as assigned.
Reports directly to Camp Director, Assistant Director and TR staff.
