What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advisor, Stokes County High Schools position at Forsyth Technical Community College?
The High School Advisor is a member of a diverse team that is responsible for the strong advocacy of both Forsyth Tech and its students – on the phone, in person, and online. The High School Advisor actively recruits Career and College Promise students and high school matriculating seniors and helps them achieve their goal of obtaining a degree. The High School Advisor works collaboratively with school counselors, principals, teachers, career development counselors, and other stakeholders to increase awareness, preparation, and college-going culture of all students, and particularly historically underserved students at assigned high schools in Forsyth and Stokes counties. The High School Advisor works diligently in a team-oriented, student-centric environment to provide exceptional student services and meet enrollment goals while embracing the mission and values of Forsyth Tech. As part of the college’s student success approach to supporting students, the High School Advisor serves a caseload of students from Forsyth and Stokes high schools, including homeschooling. The High School Advisor is expected to be present in high schools and have the flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate will be a creative individual who is student-focused, committed to equity, comfortable in an innovative work environment, and comfortable giving presentations for large and small groups. This diverse role requires a positive energy individual who can work a flexible schedule. The High School Advisor reports to the Coordinator of Dual Enrollment.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept. of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC
Preferred:
- Master’s degree.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in progressively responsible leadership and supervisory roles in higher education.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish-English.
- Experience working with community college student populations.

Advising:
Advising:
- Establish expertise in administering the Career & College Promise program, including recruiting within the high school, application and enrollment process, advising, registration, record management, and compliance with all program requirements and constraints.
- Serve as a member of the off-campus high school advising team, providing career and academic advising and follow-up services to new and returning Career and College Promise students and matriculating seniors. This includes managing a caseload to assist students through a guided pathway experience that aligns with their life and career goals.
- Provide exemplary communication in a timely manner with counselors, prospects, students, and parents.
- Coordinate with student success advisors and provide on-campus support in the summer season and at key enrollment events to support career and academic advising and enrollment support for all students.
- Maintain awareness of new developments in fields of study offered at Forsyth Tech through personal research on the college’s website and catalog, conferences, and professional development classes.
- Participate in developing and implementing new student orientation and other first-year experience activities. Provide support for both on-campus and online options.
Recruiting:
- Serve as a Forsyth Tech representative to assigned Forsyth County and Stokes County high schools by maintaining relationships with local school counselors and teachers to explain and promote the benefits of all college programs, including Career and College Promise and short-term training through the college’s economic and workforce development programs. Includes presenting to prospective students regarding degree requirements and program-specific requirements, and financial opportunities available to students.
