Forsyth Technical Community College is a catalyst for equitable economic mobility, empowering lives and transforming communities. As aligned with the college’s vision and mission, the Director will provide supervisory and administrative oversight of the newly federally-funded TRIO – Upward Bound programs. The grant serves 120 first-generation and low-income students in (60) Robert Glenn & (60) North Forsyth High Schools to increase their grades, retention rates, graduation rates, knowledge of the college application process, and college enrollment. The position works in partnership with Robert Glenn & North Forsyth High Schools’ teachers and guidance counselor staff as well as with community organizations in Forsyth County.

Required
  • Master’s degree or higher in Education, Social Services, Guidance and Counseling, Education Administration, Adult and Higher Education or a related field
  • Three to five years of experience as an administrator of federal grant, college academic support program or related programs
  • Knowledge of and two years’ experience working with low-income, first generation, students with disabilities and/or students from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in a collegiate environment.
  • Proven fiscal management skills and budgetary experience
  • Familiarity with ADA law/disability services, financial aid requirements and college admissions
  • Public relations skills and advocate for disadvantaged students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference given to individuals who have overcome similar academic, economic and cultural obstacles.

Essential Duties
Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for performance management for the TRIO UB staff.
  • Directs, plans, organizes, and provides leadership to the day to day operations of the TRIO UB department.
  • Oversees collaboration and faculty support for the TRIO UB programs.
  • Responsible for overseeing communication, customer service and the use of up to date technology in the TRIO UB programs.
  • Responsible for fiscal and grant management in the TRIO UB programs.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute the academic year and summer components activities/logistics.
  • Provide academic advisement, career counseling and personal advice to support students in college preparation.
  • Attend monthly Saturday Academy Session (twice a month) and attend Schools visits.
  • Plan, attend and facilitate educational/cultural workshops/activities and trips.
  • Prepare the submission of Annual Performance Report to meet performance objectives for TRIO UB.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, participating in quality reviews and reporting needed changes.
  • Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising department on needed actions to the Executive Director of TRIO Programs.
  • Maintains student confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, community members and constituents in a diverse, professional manner in and/or outside of the educational environment.
  • Resolve problems and to develop relevant alternatives and recommendations.
  • Manage multiple tasks, be organized and detail oriented.
  • Maintains senior caseload by providing advising, specialized sessions that target senior needs, aid in FAFSA completions, host FAFSA nights for Parents and Seniors, meet with each senior one on one monthly, aid in college application completion and track seniors throughout their tenure through Upward Bound program.
  • Hold weekly staff meetings
  • Review and affirm files for eligibility and ensure all measures of compliance are met.
  • Maintain program database (Blumen), including but not limited to entering student contacts and forms, uploading student information, and application processing etc.
  • Adhere to deadlines.
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or appropriate

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate interdepartmental goals to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of employees, ensuring that they have adequate skills, training, and experience.
  • Coach and provide ongoing feedback to employees, set realistic and measurable performance goals and ensure employees have appropriate professional development opportunities.

  • Demonstrated personal and professional competence in the field of personal, social, academic, and career counseling.
  • Ability to use computer to communicate, ability to meet competing deadlines, ability to use efficient communication, maintain accurate records, and prepare documents.

  • Public relations skills and personal qualities of integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness.
