The Forsyth Tech Cares Program Student Support Navigator will be a member of a diverse team that provides holistic, wrap around services and resources to assist students with “when life happens” situations. Under the Direction of the Director of student outreach and support services, the student outreach and support navigator will actively meet and follow up with students experiencing insecurity with food, housing, and other basic needs. This position will serve as the single point of contact for students seeking access to public and institutional resources such as public benefits, emergency assistance grants, and other related supports. This position will collaborate with on-campus and community partners in order to connect and provide referrals to at-risk students with appropriate resources. The student outreach and case manager will collaborate with other state organizations to support the implementation of a student survey to assess security and access to essential economic support
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Human service, social work or related field and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; strong attention to detail; demonstrated ability to interact successfully with diverse populations.

  • Knowledge of Single Stop Software or Outcome Tracker.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment
  • Knowledge of local and state resources to support basic needs security
  • Ability to successfully communicate (written and orally) in a language in addition to English
Essential Duties
Essential Duties:

Student Support
  • Meet and follow up with students in danger of or currently experiencing insecurity regarding basic needs.
  • Create a safe environment for students to communicate their experiences and needs when meeting with them in a one-on-one format.
  • Provide students with referrals for supportive services within the college and with community
partners.
  • Conduct student intake and assessment to determine services and resources
  • Maintain all student data to ensure it is handled promptly and accessible to leadership.
  • Student-centered approach that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion, development, and growth; collaborative, relational, and reactive to students, faculty, and departmental needs.

Outreach & Partnerships
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment, which targets students experiencing basic needs insecurity.
  • Ensure a full range of college and community resources are easily available, and information on how to access resources is effectively communicated.
  • Support the development of new community partnerships to increase student resources.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Forsyth Tech Cares and Adult Learner Success for the success of Stock the Shelves and the biannual fundraising campaign.
  • Participate and assist with the childcare drop-in services for the SPARC program.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Forsyth Tech Cares and Adult Learner Success, assist with the growth and success of the SPARC program.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Forsyth Tech Cares and Adult Learner Success for the success of the Community Farmers Market.
Program Coordination
  • Track and keep the most recent data on the number of students served and demographic information for grant requirements and quarterly reports purposes.
  • Keep apprised of state-wide updates on new initiatives involving basic needs.
  • Manage faculty requests and assistance using Navigate and Website Link.
  • Attend specialized training activities that enhance job performance.
  • Manage walk-ins for services daily at all FT Campus locations.
  • Create a sense of belonging with staff and students at the offsite FT Campuses while maintaining and operating the multiple FT Connect locations.
  • Maintain records of student cases in an electronic database.
  • Provide a soft handoff service to all students when referred to campus and community resources.
  • Maintain student confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Forsyth Tech Cares and Adult Learner Success to create partnerships in the community and attend community events in the evening to promote and grow this area to the next level.
