We are seeking a Part-Time Business and Accounting Tutor to support students in mastering key concepts in business administration, finance, and accounting. The tutor will provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, assisting students with coursework, assignments, and exam preparation. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in business, accounting, and financial principles who are passionate about helping students succeed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent and associate’s degree required. Proof of completed coursework, with a final grade of B or higher in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
Experience
- Prior tutoring, teaching, or relevant professional experience in business or accounting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and educational technology platforms. Additionally, proficiency in financial software, spreadsheets (Excel), and accounting tools (i.e. QuickBooks) is required.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.
- Customer service-oriented mindset, with the ability to handle inquiries in a professional and supportive manner.
Advanced degree in a related field. **Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept. of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
Essential Duties
1. Provide Academic Support:
- Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions for Business and Accounting students.
- Prepare and facilitate weekly small group study sessions, creating targeted opportunities for students to hone their confidence with complex concepts.
- Help students develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
2. Facilitate Student Learning
- Adapt tutoring strategies to meet diverse learning styles and academic needs.
- Use various teaching methods, including diagrams, models, and digital resources, to enhance comprehension.
- Encourage students to develop effective study habits and independent learning skills.
3. Assist with Course Material
- Guide students through assignments and exam preparation.
- Clarify difficult concepts related to financial reporting, taxation, budgeting, auditing, and economic principles.
- Support students in applying knowledge to practical and real-world scenarios.
4. Track Student Progress
- Monitor and document student improvement and areas of difficulty by filing summary reports following each session.
- Provide feedback to students on their academic performance.
- Communicate with faculty or academic support staff regarding student progress as needed.
5. Maintain a Supportive Learning Environment
- Foster a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for students.
- Uphold academic integrity and encourage ethical learning practices.
- Respect student confidentiality and adhere to institutional policies.
6. Stay Updated on Subject Matter
- Working with your supervisor, set professional development goals to expand and develop your knowledge of your subject area(s).
7. Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Success Center Director to ensure efficient and effective operation of the Center.
