We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Veterans Services Liaison - Community Outreach Specialist.
About the Role
- Develop and maintain relationships with local veteran organizations, civic groups, and other stakeholders to promote our services and outreach efforts.
- Provide guidance and support to veterans and their families in accessing available benefits and entitlements under the law.
- Collaborate with departmental staff to plan and implement programs, policies, or objectives that benefit the work group and department.
Responsibilities
- Meet with individual veterans to assess their needs, potential eligibility, and the process required to obtain benefits.
- Advocate for the interests of Fort Bend County veterans with service agencies and administrative bodies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Texas Veterans Commission.
- Promote our office's services to Fort Bend County veterans through outreach to veteran organizations and civic organizations.
- Travel to various locations throughout the county to provide services in each precinct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist veterans with form completion and support data collection.
- Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (high school/GED and four years of relevant work experience may be substituted for degree).
- Two years of job-related experience and two years of military service with an honorable discharge from any branch of the Armed Forces. Past experience with veterans' benefits is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the public, colleagues, and elected officials.
- Good organizational skills; ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Ability to present presentations to small and large groups.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must maintain certification from the Texas Veterans Commission and complete 40 hours of training certification from the National Association of County Service Officers within the first year of employment.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
