- Assists Veterinarian with surgeries, including sterilization of surgical instruments and area; Prepares animals for surgery and monitors during surgery and in recovery.
- Assists in evaluating the health of the shelter animals and brings issues to the attention of the veterinarian.
- Assists with performing medical evaluation of the animals in the shelter including a variety of animal health diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments as directed, and performs vaccinations.
- May perform euthanasia when necessary and/or assist veterinarian with euthanasia.
- Updates medical records of animals in the shelter, including diagnoses and treament, vaccines given and surgery performed.
- Promotes responsible pet ownership by answering questions from potential adopters and the public regarding animal health and behavior.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma/GED.
- 4 years experience working in animal medical environment.
- Computer and organizational skills.
- Verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, employees, and elected officials.
- Supervisory and management skills.
- Current or eligible for licensure as a Veterinary Technician with the State Board of Veterinary Medicine Examiners.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $20.10 - $25.13 hourly based on qualifications
CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
