Job Overview

The Teacher Elementary Art will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The incumbent will manage student behaviors, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify / control instructional activities as required.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction

  • Develop, implement, monitor and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, practices, and exhibitions
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Assess student abilities and achievement as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
  • Assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours and in compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student / Parent Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and Extracurricular Handbook and Visual Arts Handbook
  • Participate in professional learning activities, Professional Learning Community meetings and staff meetings, including meetings with the Director of Fine Arts or Coordinator of Fine Arts
  • Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
  • Communicate regularly with students on instructional expectations keeping them informed of their progress
  • Ensure classroom and / or instructional environment is beneficial, healthful, safe and conducive to learning while ensuring materials are accessible to students and in good condition
  • Understand and uphold all rules, regulations and dates that pertain to the instructional programs including VASE, TAEA and FBISD policies
  • Guide and monitor all art club and / or extracurricular activities as required by established guidelines and ensure all activities sponsored by such groups reflect positively on the school district, campus and instructional program
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for all extracurricular activities
  • Provide proper student supervision during and after all activities until all students have left the area
  • Participate in all FBISD-sponsored events, as well as other required activities encouraging student participation in all competitions / events related to the instructional program

Program Management

  • Schedule and facilitate at least two public art exhibits or shows on or off campus each semester featuring the artwork of students enrolled in the instructional program
  • Comply with all established policies and procedures related to the instructional program submitting all required forms, fees and electronic documents by the specified deadlines
  • Monitor the placement of all potential art students in the instructional program assigning students to an appropriate class based on prerequisite requirements, artistic skills, and / or portfolio evaluation and submitting class rosters to the principal or principal's designee prior to the specified campus deadline
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fine arts equipment and instructional materials in the specified materials management system and coordinate the service and repair of school-owned equipment
  • Manage the collection, receipt and deposit of all student fees and fund-raising proceeds while complying with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding the implementation of fund-raising activities, as well as the deposit and expenditure of all funds
  • Support and assist feeder programs by attending exhibits / shows and offering reasonable assistance to these programs

  • Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, a Visual Art discipline such as Drawing, Painting, 3D, Studio Art, etc., Art Education, or related field is preferred
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate proper artistic techniques in a variety of mediums (e.g. drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development or, if applicable, adult learning theory
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written

    The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting / carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

    Additional Information

  • This position may require travel to various campuses, district meeting sites and conferences / meetings in and out of state. This position may require the employee to work some evenings and weekends. Work may include noisy and / or disruptive student behavior. Potential exposure to bodily fluids and frequent childhood, pre-teen or teen illnesses may occur.
