Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reconcile and analyze all applicable balance sheet, revenue and expense accounts in all general ledgers monthly
- Prepare, review and post all applicable journal entries as required by the accounting cycle
- Review and post all cash receipts and reconcile Accounts Receivable sub-ledgers to the general ledger
- Reconcile or review all bank reconciliations except for Activity Fund bank account
- Prepare monthly and yearly financial statements for management review
- Assist with external and internal audits, including preparation of annual audit report
- Assist with review of data for PEIMS submission and ensure compliance with state funding program intent codes
- Review processes and procedures of various departments and recommend changes to streamline or increase internal controls
- Research, test and implement system upgrades, new financial and other business office software to identify potential problems for end-users
- Supervise positions and complete yearly evaluations as well as provide assistance to Child Nutrition department
- Assist in maintaining chart of accounts
- Maintain Excel spreadsheets for various finance functions
- Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of assigned staff
- Initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources
- Conduct the performance appraisals of assigned staff
Qualification Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree in business or accounting
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a school district preferred
- Proficient with personal computer using Microsoft Excel, Word, databases and other software
- Ability to operate calculator by touch
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Experience with PeopleSoft Accounting software preferred
- Experience and working knowledge of TEA’s Financial Accountability System Resource Guide (FASRG) and GASB pronouncements preferred
